Primary vs Secondary DNS
- A DNS server simply a database that stores all the information about domain names and their corresponding IP addresses.
DNS Server Types :
1. Primary or Master DNS Server
- Master DNS server is nothing but as it's a master name server and holds both zone and records.
- In general, domain names can work with only one name server - the primary dns.
- The information on both servers is identical.
2. Secondary or Slave DNS Server
- Slave DNS server works as secondary dns server and sync with master dns server for records
- a domain name needs to have at least two name servers assigned in order to be available at any time.
-
In case there is a problem with the primary name server, the secondary name server will be able to answer the online request for a particular domain.
