IP Address
- An IP Address(Internet Protocol Address) is a numerical label assigned to each device used to identify itself and communicate with other devices in the IP network.
- Ther are two versions of IP addresses which we are using today are IPV4 and IPV6.
Types of IP Address :
- Static IP :It is assigned to a computer by an Internet service provider (ISP) to be its permanent address on the Internet.
- Dynamic IP : It is a temporary IP address that is assigned to a computing device when it's connected to a network.It is assigned by DHCP server.
IP Address Classes :
IPV4 :
- Internet Protocol Version 4 (IPv4) is the fourth revision of the IP and a widely used protocol in data communication over different kinds of networks.
- IPV4 supports 32 bit addresses.
- It provides the logical connection between network devices by providing identification for each device.
- Configueration of IPV4 can be manual and automatic depending on the network.
IPV6 :
- Internet Protocol Version6 (IPV6) is the internet's next generation protocol.
- It was developed to replace IPV4 vesion which support maximum of approximately 4.3 billion unique ip addresses
- IPV6 supports 128 bit addresses. It allows more number of unique ip addresses.
